POLITICS/TRANSPORTATION: Follow-up, CalTRANS, Bay Bridge project, PR contract, editorial, "Taxpayers were nearly stuck for $10 public relations contract -- for a new bridge"....

***Following up on earlier report noted here....

* Daily News (editorial):  "Taxpayers were nearly stuck for $10 million public relations contract -- for a new bridge" - From the DN:

It's amazing what goes on in state government when no one is watching. The latest example was brought to light by The Sacramento Bee newspaper, which uncovered that state officials overseeing construction of the new portion of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge signed a contract with a public relations company for nearly $10 million. That's not a typo. It's correct: $10 million from taxpayers and/or tollpayers to pay for PR on a bridge.

What are these people thinking? Actually, some people were watching this ridiculous expenditure by the cash-strapped state. Just not the right people -- until the Bee exposed it.

   ****

All those Californians who were looking forward to viewing and reading "a documentary video and book to highlight and document all events leading up to the opening celebrations" for the bridge section will now be disappointed. But, thanks to The Bee's investigation and the Brown administration's quashing the whole PR endeavor, they'll have a little extra change in their pockets.
