* Orange County Register (Scott Reid): "IOC task force to discuss awarding 2024, 2028 Summer Olympic sites in September" - From the Register:
The International Olympic Committee took a significant step closer to awarding both the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games later this year, a move that could result in Los Angeles being assured of a third Olympics as early as this summer.
In the clearest sign yet the momentum is building toward a two host city plan, the IOC executive board announced that a working group made up of the IOC’s four vice presidents will study possible reforms to the bidding city process, including whether to award both the 2024 and 2028 Games this September in Lima, Peru. The announcement came after a Friday meeting in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The working group could have recommendations ready by the time Los Angeles and Paris, the two remaining 2024 host city candidates, meet with the IOC in July in a previously scheduled briefing.
“Everything is on the table,” IOC president Thomas Bach said. “And this was exactly what we have discussed in the board. On the one hand, we have said there can and will be no decision, on the other hand, no option is off the table. So, all the options are on the table and this includes also the 2024/28 procedure and vote.”
While Bach is believed to favor awarding both the 2024 and 2028 Games this year, and there is growing support elsewhere within the IOC for the move, the two-Games scenario is far from a done deal. Both Los Angeles and Paris organizing committees maintain they are focused solely on bidding for the 2024 Games .................
